Free Article Submitter - Increase Targeted Traffic

While article submission is a great way to increase your sites targeted traffic, many people STILL don't do it... and for good reason. It takes so incredibly long to do manually. Recently I came across a free program created by Brad Callen and Bryxen Software, Inc. that allows you to automatically submit your articles to hundreds of article directories with a few mouse clicks. (Brad Callen is a popular name with the affiliate Clickbank program) All you do is input your article information into the software and then the program automatically fills in all of the required data at each of the submission websites. The software currently contains around 700 article directories, all free to submit your articles to.

It is the easiest program to use, all you need do is:

1. Input your article details (i.e. title, article body, bio, etc.) into the software.

2. Click on the directory you want to submit to.

3. The program will automatically fill in your article details.

4. You simply click the submit button and your article is instantly submitted to the directory.

5. You can move to the next directory, go through the list, and by the time you're finished you'll have submitted roughly 700 articles and 700 one way links

pointing to your website. Links are great for SEO. However, you may want to change your article slightly every so many directories so it looks natural for the search engines.

A Guide on RSS Tool

RSS is an abbreviation that has evolved into the following, depending on their versions:

• RDF Site Summary (also known as RSS 0.9; the first version of RSS)
• Rich Site Summary (also known as RSS 0.91; a prototype)
• Really Simple Syndication (also known as RSS 2.0)

Today, RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication', and it has the following 7 existing formats or versions:

• 0.90
• 0.91
• 0.92
• 0.93
• 0.94
• 1.0
• 2.0

RSS tools refer to a group of file formats that are designed to share headlines and other web content (this may be a summary or simply 1 to 2 lines of the article), links to the full versions of the content (the full article or post), and even file attachments such as multimedia files. All of these data is delivered in the form of an XML file (XML stands for eXtensible Markup Language), which has the following common names:

• RSS feed
• Webfeed
• RSS stream
• RSS channel


They are typically shown on web pages as an orange rectangle that usually has the letters XML or RSS in it.

RSS feeds can be used to deliver any kind of information. Some of these 'feeds' include:

• Blogs feed - each blog entry is summarized as a feed item. This makes blog posts
easier to scan, enabling 'visitors' to zoom in on their items of interest.

• Article feed - this alerts readers whenever there are new articles and web
contents available.

• Forum feed - this allows users to receive forum posts and latest discussion
topics.

• Schedule feed - this allows users (such as schools, clubs, and other
organizations) to broadcast events and announce schedule changes or meeting
agendas.

• Discounts or Special feed - this is used to enable users (such as retail and
online stores) to 'deliver' latest specials and discounted offers.

• Ego or News Monitoring - this enables users to receive 'filtered' headlines or
news that are based on a specific phrase or keyword.

• Industry-specific feed - used by technical professionals in order to market,
promote, or communicate with current (and prospective) customers and clients
within their specific industries.

RSS feeds enable people to track numerous blogs and news sources at the same time. To produce an RSS feed, all you need is the content or the article that you want to publicize and a validated RSS text file. Once your text file is registered at various aggregators (or 'news readers'), any external site can then capture and display your RSS feed, automatically updating them whenever you update your RSS file.

RSS tools are useful for sites that add or modify their contents on a regular basis. They are especially used for 'web syndication' or activities that involve regular updates and/or publications, such as the following:

• News websites - as used by major news organizations such as Reuters, CNN, and the
BBC.
• Marketing
• Bug reports
• Personal weblogs

There are many benefits to using RSS feeds. Aside from being a great supplemental communication method that streamlines the communication needs of various sectors, RSS tools and feeds can also have tremendous benefits in your business, particularly in the field of internet marketing.

RSS tools and feeds provide Internet users with a free (or cheap) and easy advertising or online marketing opportunity for their businesses. Below are some of the RSS features that can help make your internet marketing strategies more effective.

Getting Listed in Google, Yahoo and Live (MSN)

Getting listed in Google and the other popular search engines is one of the most effective ways of directing free, targeted traffic to your web site. Below you'll discover what the search engines look for when determining your page rank so you can optimize your pages for best results.

How Search Engines Determine Your Rank:
Before you try to add your site to the search engines, you should understand what they look for when they decide how to rank your site. Just because you're listed doesn't mean you'll get traffic. You have to make sure your site is search engine ready. The general rule of thumb is that most engines use a "formula" to determine keyword relevancy. The technical term is called an "algorithm", and each search engine has its own unique algorithm that it uses to rank pages. Generally, this magic formula consists of your page title, overall body content and the number and quality of links pointing back to your site, how long people stay on your site, etc. It's important to note that every engine is different. Some may look at inbound links (number of people linking to you), others may place more emphasis on your body content. These days, meta tag content is becoming less and less important. In case you don't know, meta tags are hidden descriptors that appear at the beginning of your HTML code, inside your < head > tag. They may be invisible to your visitor's eyes, but search engine spiders can read them. They usually consist of a title, description, and keyword tag and they look something like this:

Because of abuse, many search engines no longer use these tags to help rank pages, but you should still include them because they do use them to display information about your site. For example, whatever is inside the < title > tag is what the search engine will use as the title of your site in the search results.

The Big 3 Engines - Google, Yahoo and MSN (Live):
There are a handful of engines out there that bring traffic, but the reality is a very large percentage of search engine traffic comes from Google, Yahoo and MSN. Yes, there are other engines like AOL, Netscape etc., but they pull their results from the Big 3. So in other words, once you start getting traffic from Google, Yahoo and MSN, you'll rank well in the others automatically.

How to Get Listed In Google:
There are three ways to list your site with Google, but I will warn you that using any one of these 3 methods no longer guarantees your site will be listed. Google is getting more and more selective about who gets in, and the first step is ensuring that your site is full of useful, unique content. After that, work on getting quality, relevant sites to link back to you. These days those two steps are the best ways to find your site in the almighty Google. Having said that, here are some methods that may also get you in...

1) Get your site listed in The Open Directory - http://www.dmoz.org/. This is a directory that is managed by volunteers that act as "category editors." To list your site, simply go to the most appropriate category for your web site, then drill down to the relevant subcategory and select the "Add URL" link at the top of that category's page. Wait about a month to see if your site appears. If it does not, I recommend emailing one of the category editors and asking for advice on how to get your site listed. If you're lucky, you'll receive a helpful response, but most of the category managers do not answer emails. Sometimes it may take up to one year for an editor to review and list your site and other times it may only take a couple of weeks. Be patient and please don't keep submitting! Unfortunately since DMOZ is run by volunteers, the time it takes to get your site reviewed really depends on the availability of the volunteers. Sometimes they may not check the submissions for weeks, which can be quite frustrating for people trying to get listed. Lately, it seems to be more and more difficult to get in, but the good news is this is not the only way to get into Google. Years ago this was one of the fastest ways to get listed and ranked. Fortunately there are other options that are just as effective, and I'll discuss those below. Warning: Don't try to submit to The Open Directory unless you have enough useful information on your site. If your site is only one or two pages long, then you won't likely get listed. They want medium to large sized web sites with useful and unique content. Strive for at least 15 pages. If you need more content, articlecity.com has some free articles you can post on your site. Simply find the category that closely matches your theme and add them. Be careful though, don't use too many articles because the engines may penalize your site if you have too much duplicate content.

2) The second way to get listed in Google is to use their own Add URL form located here http://www.google.com/addurl.html. This method is not as dependable as listing with The Open Directory, but it can get you in. Google admits that they may not add every site, so don't be surprised if this does not work for you.

3) The third way to get listed is to be linked from another web site that is already in Google. That way, when Google's spider goes to visit that site for updates, it will pick up the link to your site and add it. This method does not always work, but many sites do get in this way.

Getting into Yahoo and Live (Formerly MSN):
Most websites get into Yahoo and Live by getting spidered from other sites. Meaning if you're already linked from another site or web directory, Live and Yahoo's robots will eventually find you when they update their search index. If you don't want to wait to get spidered, you can submit directly to Live by going here http://search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx. Do not keep re-submitting your site. It will not speed up the process of getting listed and may even get you banned. Yahoo's direct submission site is https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit.

The Yahoo Directory:
Not to be confused with the regular Yahoo search function, the Yahoo directory is also a place you can add your site. When you go to Yahoo.com and enter a search into the box, you are using their regular search engine, not the directory. So it is possible to be included in Yahoo's regular search index and not be included in their directory. The Yahoo directory is actually a categorical listing of sites located here http://dir.yahoo.com/ and it's not used very much by web surfers. The real benefit to being listed here is to have a high quality link pointing to your site. Many search engines look at who is linking to you and if you have a link from the Yahoo directory, it may give you some "credibility" points. Some believe that having a listing in the directory will help boost your rank in Google and other engines. There is no solid proof of this, however. Yahoo also states that if you are listed in their directory, it does not have any affect on your position in their regular search results. If your site is commercial it will cost you $299 per year to be included in Yahoo's directory. So if you can justify/afford the cost, I would still recommend getting into Yahoo just to have the high-quality link pointing to your site - but don't expect a lot of traffic from the actual page you'll be listed on. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it or not. Many webmasters do quite well in the "Big 3" search engines without a listing in the Yahoo directory.

CREATE A SQUIDOO LENS FOR MORE TARGETED TRAFFIC

If you have not heard of Squidoo by now, you must have been living in a cave for quite some time.... Welcome back! Squidoo is a very powerful website, especially if you want to try out marketing. Google really likes Squidoo.

So how do you create a Squidoo lens for your business? A lens is made up of modules. There are many different kinds of modules: the guestbook, the introduction, the write/text, the link list, the text list, You Tube, Flickr, Amazon, Ebay, Itunes, poll, dogs, cameras, Orbitz, WHATEVER. So what you basically do is add the kind of modules you would want to use and build a lens. It is simple and efficient. What more can you ask for?

Before you go building your lens, here are some tips for you.
1. Do your keyword research before you build a lens. Target a certain keyword and build your lens around it.
2. Tell people who you are. For each and every lens, you should have a unique bio showing, one that is related to the specific lens you are building. Unless you have TOO many lenses to keep track.
3. Include a guestbook, a poll and maybe a plexo. A plexo will let people vote for their favorite and contribute to the list. Interaction will make people come back to your lens.
4. The main headline of your lens should contain the main keyword you are targeting. It should also capture their attention and create interest.
5. Your introduction should be interesting enough for people to read on. Create links in it for people to "jump" straight to the content they are interested in. You can do this by right clicking the links under "what's here" and copy link location. Credit goes to ShellHarris for this tip.
6. Play with your tags. Check out similar lenses and see what tags they are using and add those to your list. There is a maximum of 40 tags though, so choose wisely. Do a keyword research on each of those tags, see how many times it has been searched for and how many competing results are there.
7. Again, content is king. Offer something valuable, even if it is just a review of a product. Don't just copy and paste. The most valuable thing you can offer, to me, is your opinion on a certain matter. That is unique to you and no one else.
8. Ask for ratings and comments. Put this in your introduction, the part where most visitors will read.
9. Participate in the squidoo forum, squidu. People there are helpful. See also the forum strategy below.
10. Join relevant groups and maybe create one yourself!
11. Look around the squidoo community, rate and comment on other people's lenses. Let them know you are there and they will reciprocate. Don't expect too many of the high flyers to look around though, they are too busy managing 500 lenses!
12. While it is true you will get indexed relatively quick and you CAN depend just on Google traffic to your lens, I would highly suggest you continue to promote your lens through other means.
13. Create more lens! The more lens you have, the more exposure you will enjoy and the more traffic you will receive.
14. Feature your lenses in all your lens! Many people miss this! Get people who visit lens A to go on and visit lens B, C, D etc.

Traffic Exchanges For Increased Website Traffic

Despite the services you may have come across online that run this kind of operation look decidedly dodgy. It does actually work if you use the right service. I've been using Traffic Swarm for about 6 months now and I always see a steady stream of traffic from it to the URL's I submit. The system works by either setting your homepage to the Traffic Swarm network or by logging in to Traffic Swarm with the password you receive after signup. Each time you open your browser or sign in, you gain a credit and view 6 links; each with a short description of a particular sites content. If none of the links appeal, click the next button and you are presented with 6 more links. Should you click on a link, you receive anything from 1 to 5 credits. All credits earned go towards the number of times your site link is displayed on the network. Traffic Swarm is now in the top 500 most visited sites on the Web.

How does a Traffic Exchange work and why would I use one?
These are common questions asked by people who own web sites. Making use of a traffic exchange will have benefits for both individuals and companies, but very few people are knowledgeable on exactly how traffic exchanges work. Anyone who owns or operates web sites can join a traffic exchange network easily by signing up. A List of 12 Simple Ways To Get Free Traffic To Your Website/Blog/Lens

Embarking on an Internet marketing campaign doesn't have to be difficult, tricky, or complicated. Here are a few more FREE simple ideas that you can easily implement to get traffic to your site right now.

1) Social bookmark everything - you can bookmark each page of your site and each blog entry you post. While this might seem tedious, it's worth it. You'll see a strong increase in traffic if you social bookmark each page on your site and each of your blog entries.

2) Review: if you can review hot new products or books within your market, head on over to Amazon and start positioning yourself as an expert. In order to do this effectively you'll want to create an Amazon profile and make sure and sign each review with a reference to your URL (your web site). You can also go to Epinions and Revoo to review products as well.

3) Offer a freebie on Craig's List: you'll be amazed at how much traffic you get from a single Craig's List ad. The key here is to send people to a page on your site and make sure they have to sign up for something (like your email newsletter) before they can grab their freebie. That way you're not just getting traffic, you're also building your list.

4) Create a "recommended by" list on your Delicious page – you can do this by creating an account and then tagging articles, blogs and other content you think will be important to your readership. Offer this page as a resource site. You can add a link to this page in your email signature line or on your web site.

5) Speaking of your email signature line... do you have one? If you don't, create one. Believe it or not, people do follow these links. You'll be amazed how many folks read email signature lines. I have one and change it several times a year depending on what I'm doing or promoting.

6) Lend a helping hand: you can be an answer person at Yahoo Answers – you don't have to spend hours on there, but maybe a few minutes a week. Make sure and include a link back to your site following your answers.

7) Set up a social networking site using Facebook, LinkedIn, or Squidoo. It's free and easy to do, just don't forget the all-important link back to your site!

8) Make sure your blog has an RSS feed so if you capture a reader you don't lose them if they forget to bookmark your site or blog.

9) Join relevant groups at Yahoo groups. You'll find everything from groups on growing your small business, writing books, finding your passion, even underwater basket weaving. I dare you to find one that isn't right for what you're promoting. When you do find the right group, join and participate as you can!

10) Start a blog and then once you do, start commenting on other people's blogs, linking to them from your site or adding them to your blogroll.

11) Inbound links: don't squander your time (or a perfectly good link) on smaller low-traffic sites. Instead spend your time going after high traffic, high quality sites. Good sites should have a PR (page ranking) of 4-6 depending on the market. You can find out what a site's page ranking is by downloading the Google toolbar which comes with a PR feature built in.

12) Start an email newsletter: while it may not seem like a newsletter that you email can drive traffic to your site you'd be surprised at the effectiveness of this type of promotion. If your newsletter (like your articles) is interesting and relevant to your audience, you'll find that it has a huge pass-through factor, meaning that it is passed from one email subscriber to another.

While this isn't really a tip, it's still important. If you're going to go through all the trouble of getting traffic to your site, make sure your site is converting this traffic into something. Get folks to sign up for something, your newsletter, the RSS feed on your blog. Whatever it is, getting their email address will help you remarket to them when the time is right. Studies show that visitors landing on a site often don't buy the first time. That's ok! You want to get them into your marketing funnel so you can market to them again and again – not in a way that's obtrusive, offensive or downright annoying, but in a way that is helping them with their own mission. An example of this might be an email newsletter. A helpful, informative newsletter is a fantastic funnel. A blog is another great way to keep people in your marketing loop without bombarding them with "please buy my stuff" email messages. Also, make sure you know what your traffic numbers are before you launch into any Internet marketing campaign. By traffic numbers I mean how many people are visiting your site. You want to know this so you can gauge a before and after view of your marketing efforts.

Get Free Traffic With Article Marketing

One of the easiest ways to get more traffic to your website is through article marketing. If you write articles that are related to your website and submit them to article directories and free article submission sites, you can increase your web traffic and sales. When you write an article, you will be able to include a link in the resource box at the end of the article. This is what readers will see and when they click on the link for more information, they will be taken to your website. These articles also become available to webmasters, newsletter publishers and your target audience. Your article can get picked up and posted to other websites and in online newsletters, which is an additional way to increase and boost your web traffic. If someone conducts a search using the keywords that you have in your article, then they can find your article and click on the link to get to your website. So make sure that your articles have the appropriate keywords that describe your product or service. Many online business owners are catching on and seeing the potential in writing and publishing their articles. When someone finds an article that is packed with benefits and information that they are looking for, the chances that they will buy from you is much higher than just a regular reciprocal link from someone else's website. Your articles should be informative, unique and fresh. Make it professional, but humorous. The reader should be able to understand the point that you are trying to make. No sales pitch should be obvious in the article. If you take a few minutes to write one article and submit it to article directories and check the search engines in a few days, you will be surprised to see the effect of one article and maybe, this will give you more zest to write other articles to increase your traffic.

Get Free Traffic With Forum Marketing

Very often, entrepreneurs who start out online end up losing money and wasting time trying to get traffic to their websites and I have to admit, I was once there. It’s a fact that I was once a newbie, I once lost over a grand on advertising and even I have even been scammed a couple times. Many have walked the path I have, committed many blunders…some may have even experienced worse but that’s not the point here. What I am trying to get at, is that these mistakes have taught most of us (entrepreneurs) to be smarter, to start thinking "out of the box" when making business decisions.

Today I’m going to show you how thinking "out of the box" can help you get traffic the lazy way & gain exposure to your website with just one or a few forum posts. Yes, you heard it right. Before I tell you about the forum method, I want to set the record straight. I know some of you would like it to be, “Mike, can you show us step by step how to do it…what to say and what to do.” Well, I’m sorry I’ll have to disappoint you if you ask to be spoon-fed. If you feel that what I am about to share with you makes good sense, you’ll be able to do it instinctively. That is the spirit about doing online business. You need to understand that when it comes to marketing, you are dealing with a real human being and not some robot you can feed a few sentences to and it will hand you whatever you desire.

So, why Forum Marketing? The context in which your customers get to see your offer is very important.

Example: If your potential customer is searching on Google, their guard is higher, however, if they know they are searching in a forum, they are less guarded because forums create a sense of community where everyone’s opinions are open for others to criticize.

Visitors in forums are usually there to look for new information as people constantly want to be in the know. They are also there to seek opinions. The trust there is enough that they will be open to other people’s suggestions. Everyone wants to have a say and give their own opinions whether they are competent or not.

So how do you get traffic to your website from forums with just one or a few posts? You get them to give you their opinion. Let’s say you’re in a Yoga niche. You could pose a question like:

“I know some of you may not like Ashtanga Yoga but I also know that it helps to awaken your body’s energy…which camp do you belong to? Do you prefer Ashtanga Yoga or others?”

You will certainly get a heated debate here automatically and you can recommend the exact Ashtanga Yoga DVDs in your forum signature. You can also post again to comment after other people’s replies for added boost. With so much content on your post or topic, it’s like creating a long article of content, not created by you but by the forum users.

What this does is to create new content that Google will easily index (generally forum pages are highly indexed by Google), therefore bringing traffic not only from forum users but also from the search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN…and for a long while. When visitor traffic arrives, your signature will be exposed to them, so make sure you use a good headline for your signature.
